Discover The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument: The Archway Monument focuses on preserving, educating, and celebrating the
transcontinental visionaries of the past, present and future. An interactive exhibit, the Archway Monument is the only site in
the country where the California, Mormon and Oregon trails crossed paths. Completed in June of 2000, the non-profit monument
prominently spans I-80 in Kearney, Nebraska. The Archway Monument was envisioned and founded by the late Nebraska Governor Frank
Morrison. While all of the 150th Handcart Celebration actiivies are free at the Archway, admission to the attractions in the Archway and the maze at the fort
require an admission ticket

Camp and visit Fort Kearny State Historical Park: “Guardian of the Plains” which was built in 1848 to protect travelers
on the Oregon and Mormon Trails. It was also an Overland Stage and Pony Express station. Ft Kearny has a reconstructed
sod blacksmith shop, ammunition magazine and stockade along with a visitor’s center. There will also be a civil war era
encampment there on Memorial Day weekend 27-29 May. The fort has one of the “original” heavy cannons that were being
carried west with Gen. Johnson. The Fort has a fantastic camping area. Please see their web site and register early
for camping spots.
